Playing Regs - Swimming



1. Awards

Place ribbons will be awarded to the first six places in each event.

2. Definition

The SWOSSAA swim meet is herein defined as a qualifying meet for swimmers to proceed from their local championship to the OFSAA championship.

3. Meet Structure

The SWOSSAA swim meet shall provide competitionin High School, Open and Para-swimming divisions. Eligibiliy to compete in a division shall follow OFSAA rules.

4. Events

a) The events held at the SWOSSAA swim meet will be the same as those held at the OFSAA meet.
b) The order of the events shall follow the OFSAA format.
c) All events are timed events.

5. Entries

Each school shall enter its competitors in the SWOSSAA swim meet. The entry procedures shall be provided in the meet package that will be distributed to member schools.
a) Open and High School events (individual and relays)
i) The winner of each event at the LSSAA or WECSSAA swim meet will have automatic entry to the SWOSSAA swim meet.
ii) Non-winners of events must meet the time standard as outlined in #6 below.
iii) A school may enter any number of competitors in an individual event and one team per relay team provided they qualify under (i) and (ii) above.
b) A school may enter any number of competitorsin each Para-swimming event. There are no time standards for Para-swimming events.
c) Competitors may enter a maximum of 4 events and if they enter the maximum one must be a relay.
d) A relayteam may be made up of six (6) competitors, any four (4) of whom may swim.
e) For the Open Relays, teams may consist of swimmers from the High School Division, the Open Division or any combination thereof.
f) A Para-swimmer competitor who chooses to swim in the Para-swimming division may not swim in the corresponding event in the High School or Open division. For the other events, he/she may swim in the High School division or Open division only.
g) Entries must be received by the SWOSSAA convenor by the date and time specified in the Association entry packag. No late entries will be accepted.

6. Time Standards

For individual and relay events (Open and High School), time standards must be met or bettered in a bonafide competition for entry to the SWOSSAA swim meet as outlined in 5 (a)(ii)above. Time standards can be achieved anytime from the local association's swimming start date to their swim championship. Official split times (from the entire first leg of a relay) will be recognized as official entry times. Open swimmers can use results from their club meets that achieve thatstandards to enter the SWOSSAA swim meet. Time standards are based on the OFSAA time standards.
Length of Race - Time to added to OFSAA time standard
50m -----------------------3 sec
100m ----------------------6 sec
200m ----------------------12 sec
400m ----------------------24 sec

If a race is competed at yards instead of metres, the time from the race will be multiplied by 1.10 before using the above table.

7. Playing Rules

a) S.N.C. rules shall govern competition at the SWOSSAA swim meet with the following exceptions:
i) IPC swimming rules shall govern the Para-swimming portion of the competition.
ii) Scratches are to be submitted to the marshall at least fifteen (15)minutes prior to the start of the meet.
b) The pool shall be open for warm-ups prior to the start of the meet. The warm-up schedule shall be distributed in the school information packages. S.N.C. warm-up procedures will bein effect.

8. Officials

The convenor shall be responsible for obtaining competentofficials for the SWOSSAA swim meet.

9. OFSAA Qualifying

a) In the high school and open divisions, the winner of each event plus those competitors who make the OFSAA time standard for their event at the SWOSSAA swim meet shall be entered to the OFSAA swim meet.
b) All Para-swimmers who compete at the SWOSSAA swim meet shall be entered to the OFSAA swim meet.
