Swimming
1. Definition
The SWOSSAA swim meet is herein defined as a qualifying meet for swimmers to proceed from their local championship to the OFSAA championship.
2. Supervision
No swimmer shall be allowed to enter the SWOSSAA swim meet unless accompanied by a teacher coach or teacher advisor. A teacher is defined as a member of the Ontario College of Teachers or a holder of an Ontario Teacher's Certificate or equivalent. The principal of the school may designate an adult who is not a teacher to accompany the athletes.
3. Rules Governing Competition
S.N.C. rules for high schools shall govern competition at the SWOSSAA Championship.
4. Officials
The convenor shall be responsible for obtaining competent officials for the SWOSSAA Championship.
5. Awards
Each competitor who finishes in the top six (6) in each event shall receive a ribbon (no limit).
6. Time Standards:
Time standards shall be used and must be met or exceeded in a bonafide competitive situation as a requirement for entry to the SWOSSAA meet. Time standards can be achieved anytime from the local association's swimming start date to their swim championship. Open swimmers can use results from their club meets that achieve the standards to enter the SWOSSAA championship. Determination of time standards will be calculated by multiplying the OFSAA time standard by 1.11 for all events.
7. Meet Structure:
(a) the SWOSSAA Swim Meet shall provide competition in the SWAD,
Open, and High School divisions.
Classification
of swimmers is as follows:
(i) Swimmers With A Disability (SWAD)
~ All
swimmers with a disability must have a classification provided by accredited
classifiers, to compete in OFSAA.
Classifications for
SWAD Competitors: -S1-10 are physically disabled; -S11, S12, S13 are blind;
-S 14 are mentally disabled.
(ii) Open
Division -Junior and Senior Events
A swimmer
who has competed for and/or trained with and/or been registered with a SNC club
or equivalent as of November 1st of the year prior to the current school year
shall be eligible to compete in the Open Division only.
A swimmer
who, during the current school year, has competed for and/or trained with
and/or been registered with a non-SNC competitive swim club* shall be eligible
to compete in the Open Division only. If a grade 9 swimmer has ceased to
compete for and/or practise with and/or is no longer
registered with a club after November 1st of the current school year, he/she
shall be eligible to swim in the high school division.
* A
"non-SNC competitive swim club" is defined as a club which practices
outside the school curricular and/or extra curricular programs and whose
athletes compete in scheduled swim meets for the club during the school swim
season.
(iii) High
School Division -Junior and Senior Events
All other
swimmers (i.e. not SWAD or Open swimmers as defined above) who meet the
eligibility requirements outlined in Section 5 compete in this division.
(b)
The order of events for all SWOSSAA competitions shall follow the OFSAA format.
(m) The meet shall be run as timed finals.
(n) The pool shall be open for warm-ups prior to the start of the qualifier. The warm-up schedule shall be distributed in the school information packages. SNC warm-up procedures shall be in effect.

9. Entry:
Entry to the SWOSSAA qualifying meet shall be made by the local high school association convenor. The entry procedure shall be provided in the meet package that will be distributed to the member schools.
(a) A school may enter any number competitors in each individual event in each division, as long as the competitor has met or exceeded the time standard in that event, as outlined in Section 6, and one (1) school relay team in each Junior relay event, each Senior relay event, and in the combined 400 metre Freestyle Relay.
(b) Competitors may enter a maximum of 4 events and if they enter the maximum, at least one must be a relay.
(c) All SWAD swimmers who participate in the Association/qualifying meet are eligible to compete at OFSAA. There are no time standards for these events.
(d) A relay team may be made up of six (6) competitors, any four (4) of whom may swim.
(e) For the Open 400 Metre Relay, teams shall consist of four swimmers, from the High School Division , Open Division or any combination thereof.
(f) A SWAD competitor who chooses to swim in the SWAD division may not swim in the corresponding event in the High School or the Open division. For the other events, however, he/she may swim in the High School division only or the Open division only.
(g) Entries must be received by the SWOSSAA convenor by the date and time specified in the Association entry packages. No late entries will be accepted.
8. OFSAA Qualifying
(a) Each Association may enter the winner of each event in the High School Division events plus any swimmers making the time standard for their event at the Association/qualifying meet.
(b) In the Open Division, Associations may only enter those swimmers who make the time standard at the Association/qualifying meet regardless of their placing in their event.
(c) All SWAD swimmers who participate in the Association/qualifying meet are eligible to compete at OFSAA. There are no Time Standards for these events
